frequently asked questions

How many years have you been in business? . . .

The Wine Trust has been handling fine wine for over 40 years. While we have deliberately grown in recent years, we remain diligent about branding ourselves as one of the most reliable market resources for suppliers seeking unencumbered access to a well-cared for portfolio.

What kind of stock do you carry? . . .

We carry one of the nation’s largest and most expansive stocks of aged, fine, and rare wines that are readily available and ready to drink. While originally centered on the great wines of Bordeaux, our portfolio has since expanded to include some of the most sought-after wines from many of the other great wine regions of the world. In addition, more than half of our stocks are wines from superb and passionate, up-and-coming or under-the-radar producers for whom we act as exclusive importer, winery representative and wholesaler in some or all of the US. We believe that these wines offer a compelling quality-to-price ratio and deserve to share the spotlight with our library of iconic wines.

Where do your stocks come from? . . .

For our superb and growing selection of Exclusive and Limited Edition Wines, we work directly with producers and domaine owners to receive direct allocations of these superb wines from Burgundy, Rhone, the Loire Valley, Jura, Tuscany, Piedmont, Spain and California, among other regions. We also arrange and control our own logistics and shipping, to maintain the tightest control over the conditions in which our wines travel.

We acquire our Library Wines directly from the from the producers themselves or from reputable negociants in Bordeaux and elsewhere, many of whom have been in business for hundreds of years and/or remain family-controlled businesses. Bordeaux chateaux, with very few exceptions, do not sell directly to customers, but instead use the negociant system known collectively as the Place de Bordeaux.

How many times has this wine been shipped/bounced around the world? . . .

Exceptional provenance is in our DNA – our wines are either sourced directly from the producers, have the finest, traceable provenance, or feature single-owner, trade-focused ownership.

How are your prices for the wines you offer? . . .

While we cannot guarantee that we will always be the least expensive purveyor of the Library Wines we offer, you will find that we are usually among the most competitive and we are often the only US sellers of the wines we offer. For our Exclusive and Limited Edition portfolios, we believe that our prices are extremely competitive given the superb quality on offer. To put it simply, we believe that across our entire portfolio, our prices offer an excellent quality-to-price ratio.

How are you able to offer such competitive prices for this superb product? . . .

  • We have a far larger sourcing network than most competitors, meaning we are able to secure wines at the lowest cost.
  • We purchase significant stocks of wines annually, meaning that we are able to negotiate extremely favorable prices.
  • We buy directly from the vast majority of the producers we represent and whose wines we sell.
  • We eliminate multiple layers of middlemen by importing and shipping ourselves, passing the savings on to our customers.
